History
Kingsport Child Development Center was founded in 1946 as a result of WWII and the need for mothers to work. The merger of Kingsport Colored Nursery and Maple Street Youth Center resulted in the formation of Kingsport Nursery School. In the 1960's, we became a United Way agency. We currently educate children from six weeks of age to pre-kindergarten.
In 2002, the Board of Directors voted to purchase and renovate a facility in the downtown area. Our vision was to be more accessible to the parents we serve and the community. We formed partnerships with the City of Kingsport, the Regional Center for Applied Technology (RCAT), and Northeast State Technical Community College. KCDC has been in its present location since September of 2002.
Kingsport Child Development Center is a licensed child care center by the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services. We are proud to be a United Way of Greater Kingsport member agency.
